CURIOSITIES ABOUT THE BRAZIL NUT TREE

The Brazil nut tree (Bertholletia excelsa), also known as the Pará nut tree, is a majestic native tree of the Amazon rainforest.

1.

Height and Diameter: Brazil nut trees typically reach heights between 30 meters and 50 meters (98 to 164 feet) and have a diameter of 1 meter to 2 meters (3.3 to 6.6 feet). They are among the tallest species in the Amazon.

Some recorded Brazil nut trees have reached heights of 50 meters (164 feet) and diameters exceeding 5 meters (16.4 feet).

2.

Reproduction: Brazil nut trees rely on pristine environments for their reproduction. Their flowers are pollinated by specific types of insects, which are attracted by orchids growing near the Brazil nut trees. If these orchids or the pollinating insects are harmed, the Brazil nut trees do not produce fruit.

3.

Fruit: The Brazil nut fruit takes over a year to mature. It is roughly the size of a coconut and can weigh up to 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds). The hard shell of the fruit contains between 8 and 24 seeds, which are the prized Brazil nuts.

4.

Conservation: The Brazil nut tree is considered vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

In Brazil, it appears on the list of threatened species maintained by the Ministry of the Environment. Deforestation poses the primary risk of extinction for this species.

We invest in and value the recycling process by compensating for at least 22% of the total mass of packaging sold in the country.

Together, we contribute to Brazil’s recycling chain.
